Discription

The coin is round. On the front and back sides there is a rim along the circumference. The edge of the coin is reeded.

 

Obverse

At the top – a relief image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus; in the center – a stylized silhouetted images of a bear and images of men – the characters of Belarusian folk legends – and Belarusian plaited patterns against the background of a spinning wheel symbolizing perpetual motion, where the wheel’s pattern is changing into the structure of tree rings; beneath – the year of issue (alloy standard shown on the silver coin); and circular inscriptions: at the top – РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS), and at the bottom – 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 ROUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 ROUBLE) on the copper–nickel coin.

 

Reverse

In the center – a stylized image of a bear accompanied by mythological characters and symbols of Belarusian legends; and at the bottom – a circular inscription: ЛЕГЕНДА ПРА МЯДЗВЕДЗЯ (THE LEGEND OF THE BEAR).
