Discription
The coin is round. On the front and back sides there is a rim along the circumference. The edge of the coin is grained.
Obverse
At the top – a relief image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus; in the center – a stylized silhouetted images of the tortoises and women – the characters of Belarusian folk legends – and Belarusian ornamental patterns against a spinning wheel symbolizing perpetual motion where the wheel’s pattern is changing into the structure of tree rings; beneath – the year of issue (alloy standard shown on the silver coin); and circular inscriptions: at the top – РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS), and at the bottom – 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper–nickel coin.
Reverse
In the center – a stylized image of a tortoise along with mythological characters and symbols of Belarusian legends; in the upper left-hand part – a circular inscription: ЛЕГЕНДА ПРА ЧАРАПАХУ (THE LEGEND OF THE TORTOISE).
